Pi Rho Omega Chapter Scholarships
The Pi Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® scholarship submission period is now CLOSED! The 2026 awardees will be announced in June 2026.

Scholarship Descriptions & Essay Requirements:
A written essay is required for each scholarship for which an applicant applies. Each essay must be double-spaced and contain 300 -500 words. The essay is a part of the application package requirements.

Dr. Linda H. Gilliam Scholarship
The Dr. Linda H. Gilliam HBCU Scholarship award of $1,000 has been established for qualifiable African American high school female students demonstrating academic excellence and attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the 2026-27 school year.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Essay Topic: “Why I Want to Attend an HBCU” (300-500 words);
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Demonstrated service in her school and community.
- A female student graduating from Chesterfield or Powhatan County Public Schools.
- Enroll and attend a HBCU. Failure to do so will result in the award being rescinded.

Dr. Tommye R. Finley Scholarship
The Dr. Tommye R. Finley Scholarship award of $1,000 has been established for qualifiable African American high school student applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Essay Topic: My Influencer (300-500 words)
- Describe a person who has had a significant influence on you. What did he/she teach you, and how did his/her influences shape your life
- An African American female student graduating from Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover, City of Richmond or surrounding schools in the metro Richmond area.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

Diane E. Roberts Scholarship
The Diane E. Roberts Scholarship award of $1,500 has been established for qualifiable African American high school student applicants based on financial need.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Essay Topic: My Plans for the Future (300-500 words)
- Discuss your plans for the future, including academic interests, career aspirations, and how attending college will help you achieve these goals and impact on your community.
- An African American female student graduating from Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and the City of Richmond and surrounding schools in the metro Richmond area.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
