Pi Rho Omega Chapter Scholarships

The Pi Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® scholarship submission period is now closed. The 2024 awardees will be announced in June 2024.  

 

Scholarship Descriptions & Essay Requirements:
Essays must be typed, double-spaced and contain approximately 300 words.

Dr. Linda H. Gilliam Scholarship

The Dr. Linda H. Gilliam HBCU award of $1,000 has been established for deserving high school female students attending a Historically Black College or University in the 2024-25 school year.

 Scholarship Criteria:

  • Essay topic: “Why I want to Attend an HBCU” 300-500 words
  • Must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have demonstrated service in her school and community
  • A female student graduating from Chesterfield or Powhatan County Public Schools.
  • Awardee will enroll and attend an HBCU, failure to do so will result in the award being rescinded.

Dr. Tommye R. Finley Scholarship

Two Dr. Tommye R. Finley scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence.

 

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Essay topic: “Why do you want to get a college education?” 300-500 words
  • An African American female student graduating from Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and the City of Richmond and surrounding schools in the metro Richmond area.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

Diane E. Roberts Scholarship

Two Diane E. Roberts scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded based on financial need.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Essay topic: “What impact would this scholarship have on your education?” 300-500 Words
  • An African American female student graduating from Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and the City of Richmond and surrounding schools in the metro Richmond area.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
